Description:   This dataset was created as an additional spatial output from the generation of the Census Profile documents. These polygons have the same attributes as those metrics used in the report and can be used to create maps of the reported statistics. The broad steps for creating these reports is as outlined below. The FME workbench located here (\\wat070\Production\GIS\Special_projects\WDavison\Requests\TanjaC\CensusProfiles2016\CensusDataProcessing2016.fmw) was used to process the data and attach it to the Census custom geographies.Pre-GIS Steps1. Review .IVT tables in Beyond 20/20 browser and identify those metrics that will be required in the report.a. It should be noted that hiding non-essential fields at this stage and saving these tables as a new version for processing is recommended (clears up clutter and makes initial processing quicker). This task could be conducted by the subject matter experts prior to forwarding to GIS staff.b. The rows/columns should also be pivoted so that the geography are the rows and the census statistics are the columns.GIS Processing2. The .IVT tables are then saved in the .DBF format as FME software cannot read the IVT format.3. Tables are processed in broad categories and prefixed with a category identifier that makes identifying the individual metrics much easier after the highly descriptive and very long field names are condensed to more succinct field headings.4. The subsequent category tables are then assembled into one master tables (containing all attributes) and joined to the relevant geographic boundaries.5. This tables is output as a spatial geographic file and a non-spatial excel table (identical).Report Preparation6. The non-spatial table is then inserted into a report template constructed in excel.a. The excel report template consists of several tabs:i. Table Definitions – Contain a dictionary of the category prefixes used group table metrics and the census description from the original table.ii. Census_Processing_Output – The raw tabular output from the initial data processing. This table contains every metric for every geographic boundary. This table is the primary source for the report template; all values in the report are retrieved from this table (saved as a named range in excel DATA_TABLE).iii. Report_Template – This tab contains all the logic, formatting, and formulas used to construct the report. It is broken down in 2 halves. The left half is the ‘Publishing’ half and controls how things will look and how they are to appear on the page. The right half is the ‘Report Schema’ half, this controls what variables are being retrieved from the DATA_TABLE and inserted into the report structure. This schema portion is intended to provided clarity and indicate which metrics are being presented within the report.*variables are ‘fetched’ from the raw DATA_TABLE and inserted into the Report using the DGET formula controlled by the field named indicated in the schema view.*Building the report with these formula ensures that all profiles are consistent and present the exact same variable for each metric.*All formatting, grammar, punctuation, etc. should be done in the Publishing half of this tab.*Report sections can be rearranged by selecting, cutting, and pasting the ENTIRE row (across publishing half and schema half). This method can be used to arrange portion of the report to fit page breaks etc. (view it in the page layout mode of Excel).*The Report Selector dropdown can be used to change the geographic boundary that is presented in the report. iv. Map_Thumbnails – This tab contains pre-generated map thumbnails of each of the census geographic boundaries that are dynamically inserted into the report based on which geography is current selected.In the interest of succint field names, the attributes from the Census statistics were abbreviated and prefixed when translated in the FME workbench.
