Building rooftop outlines for all significant structures in the City, represented by polygons. Areas for ancillary structures such as decks are not represented. The polygons are intended to be used as base data, and to represent the approximate generalised outline of the building. Note that the roofline may not match the footprint on the ground. Polygons were initially created based on aerial photgraphy from 2000, and have since been maintained based on more recent aerial orthophotography from multiple years (particularly 2012 and 2009). Updated polygons (edited in 2013/2014) have been digitised at a scale of 1:250. Updated polygons are much improved, and should have square corners (unless that wouldn't reflect reality). Other sources such as building cad drawings have been used where available. Updates will continue until all polygons have been reviewed, and will then be maintained as new orthophotography is received, and as permits are issued (particularly demolition permits).
The dataset illustrates the preliminary locations of the station platforms for the Rapid Transit project as found in the functional design drawings for the RFP (June, 2013).These locations are preliminary and the Region of Waterloo reserves the right to modify them.
There is some duplication of stations between Phase One and Phase Two of the project. For example, the Sportsworld platform in Phase I is planned to be located in the Sportsworld Crossing development. Meanwhile in Phase Two of the project the platform will be located near the CP rail tracks on the eastern side of Hwy 8
This raster layer was created in 2014 for the purpose of cartographically representing hypothetical shadows in order to simulate the sun's rays over the varied terrain of a landscape. This hillshade was created using the 2012 Digital Elevation Model (DEM) with a 5m resolution and can be utilized for creating a three-dimensional effect that provides a sense of visual relief for cartographic purposes.
Boundaries for locations of significant governmental, economic, cultural, or recreational importance, represented as polygons. The polygons are intended to be used as base data, and to thematically represent the areas of interest for navigational or way-finding purposes. The locations represent the consolidation of datasets representing City of Waterloo facilities and non-municipal landmarks. The polygons were primarily created using the Teranet property fabric where the area of interest was synonymous with the parcel. In cases where the fabric was not sufficient to adequately delimit the location of interest, building footprints were utilized as a substitute. Updates and/or additions will be made as candidates are identified.
To acquire digital aerial photography, complete an aerial triangulation adjustment and produce orthoimagery for Kitchener, Cambridge, The City of Waterloo, and The City of Guelph in spring 2021.
